The Government’s proposals for allowing the police to hold terrorist suspects for up to 90 days without charge has been defeated by 31 votes:
MPs are now voting on a compromise detention time limit of 28 days.
The prime minister admitted (earlier today that) he could lose the vote but argued: “Sometimes it is better to lose and do the right thing than to win and do the wrong thing.”
