On the one hand are the denizens of a Washington bar favored by President Bush’s twin daughters: young administration staffers “who tend to have wealthy fathers and know each other” and “the Texas Rich children of Bush-Cheney officials and contributors,” drinking and partying all night.
On the other hand are soldiers of about the same age in Iraq, usually from much less privileged backgrounds. Sometimes they fight, sometimes they help rebuild schools, sometimes they encourage Iraqis to vote in their first free election– and sometimes they die.
I’ve posted before about the inequality of service, but it’s an issue I can’t let go. Regardless of how you feel about the war itself, isn’t there something terribly wrong with this picture?
