Some days ago I mentioned the remarkable comments of Republican Congressman Tom Cole of Oklahoma about the upcoming US election.
Cole said that “if George Bush loses the election, Osama bin Laden wins the election” since enemies of the United States would interpret it as a sign of weakness.
“What do you think Hitler would have thought if Roosevelt would’ve lost the election in 1944? He would have thought American resolve was” (weakening), Cole said, according to a spokeswoman.
Unsurprisingly it turns out there were Democrats perfectly willing to use the same tactics in that year.
Addressing the 1944 Democratic convention, Senator Samuel Jackson of Indiana declared: “How many battleships would a Democratic defeat be worth to Tojo? How many Nazi legions would it be worth to Hitler? . . . We must not allow the American ballot box to be made Hitler’s secret weapon.”
Now British Politics has revealed that among those prepared to hand Tojo and Hitler a victory at the ballot box was a young Navy pilot based in the South Pacific named George HW Bush.

Worth keeping in mind the next time someone suggests that a vote for John Kery is a vote for Osama bin Laden.
