Yet another reason to feel relieved that Howard Dean will not be the Democratic nominee for President this year:
Speaking of the Madrid bombings, he said, “The president was the one who dragged our troops to Iraq, which apparently has been a factor in the death of 200 Spaniards over the weekend.”
Dean referred to the videotape in which an al-Qaeda operative claimed that the group carried out the bombings to punish Spain for backing the US-led war in Iraq.
“That was what they said in the tape,” Dean said. “They made that connection, I’m simply repeating it.”
It’s a little reminiscent of Dean’s comment last December about the “interesting theory” that Bush had advance warning of the 9/11 attacks from Saudi Arabia.
Dean was speaking on a conference call arranged by John Kerry’s campaign. If I may offer some unsolicited advice to the campaign, it would be to put as much distance as possible between the candidate and Dean– even at the risk of offending some diehard Deaniacs.
