While not condoning Palestinian suicide murderers, Liberal Democrat MP Jenny Tonge says she understands the conditions that create them and would consider becoming one herself if she was in their place.
I’ve long been mystified by those who express “understanding” for even the vilest acts of mass murder when they are committed by Palestinians. What if the friends and relatives of Israeli terror victims routinely crossed into the West Bank and carried out revenge attacks on innocent Palestinians? Would they be favored by MP Tonge’s understanding too?
If you can “understand” the murderers of Israeli children, why not also understand:
—Baruch Goldstein. Maddened by violence against his fellow Jewish settlers in the West Bank, he murdered 29 Palestinians in Hebron in 1994.
—Timothy McVeigh. Angered by the federal government’s botched and deadly assault on the Branch Davidian compound in Texas, he planted a bomb outside the federal building in Oklahoma City in 1995, killing 168 people.
—Osama bin Laden. Enraged by the American presence in the Middle East and by US support for Israel, he ordered the 2001 attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, killing thousands.
There’s usually a reason people do unspeakably awful things. By which standard does MP Tonge decide who does and doesn’t deserve her understanding?
