The US defence secretary, Donald Rumsfeld, is discussing the idea of an international peacekeeping force which could be dispatched to maintain order in the world’s trouble spots, reports the Guardian.
An inspired idea? Belated recognition that the US can’t ‘nation build’ on their own? Or is it simply Rumsfeld realising the Americans have bitten off more than they can chew?
Whatever the motivation it seems an idea well worth looking at. I wonder what the UN will have to say about it?
