Howard Beckett who is in the running for the top job at the powerful UNITE Union has been suspended from the Labour Party for tweeting that Home Secretary Priti Patel should be deported
Pretty vile stuff from Howard Beckett here. Not so much a dog whistle as a klaxon. However low Unite’s sunk with McCluskey, its members deserve better than this pic.twitter.com/7pzz0WgFHx

Beckett was defended by journalist Owen Jones:
And this is utterly disgraceful from the Labour leadership.
They don’t care about racism. They don’t even understand what it is. They just see an opportunity to gain factional advantage.
The absolute sickening pits from a bunch of lying charlatans. https://t.co/1tDkuqwgjD

The leadership elections have been dominated by concerns over the building of a hotel and conference centre that was initially budgeted as costing £7 million but came in at just under £100 million.
