Friends you all know me and my articles, you know where I stand on just about everything, you get I don’t like Netanyahu etc etc.
But this current wave, this crisis sweeping through the UK has really got me shaken up.
Moving to Israel gave me an appreciation for the gravitas of British democracy, for the steady way in which British politics always seemed to have a grip, for the understated way in which points were made, for the lack of hyperbole and the sheer steadiness that the example of what parliamentary democracy should look like handles itself.
But now I feel lost when looking at the British government. I am sure you feel the same way. The Tories about to be taken over by a buffoon who just won a battle he never intended to win. The Labour Party, the party of social justice in the grip of a man who was in the pay of the Iranian and Putin regime at various points. A man on the cusp of destroying his own party.
And no one quite seems to know what to do about it. In fact no one quite knows who is running the country at all.
This is a crisis that strikes at the core of what the UK is. Hopefully it will be able to stay together but at the moment no one knows.
What do you think will happen? Is this just a storm in a British teacup? Or is it the end of the United Kingdom and the cusp of something entirely new for Britain?
