Labour Party

“…whichever is sooner”?

What’s this all about? Politico Europe reports:

Westminster was abuzz with fresh speculation over Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership Wednesday after he advertised for a personal spin doctor for “only” as long as he is Labour leader — “or until December 31, whichever is sooner.”

One senior Labour Party staffer said the internal job posting for “leader’s office media spokesperson” was “bizarre” and only served to fuel rumors about a challenge to Corbyn’s leadership. “It basically says the job is only yours until the end of the year — or earlier if Jeremy is sacked. It’s completely mental.”

And this:

One Labour MP contacted by POLITICO said: “Happy days! It would appear the leader has indicated his own departure timetable for the end of this year, at the latest. Happy new year one and all.”

I share that MP’s hope for an end to Corbyn’s disastrous leadership of Labour. But celebrations may be premature.

And where does comrade Milne fit into this? I thought that was part of his job. Is this his doing or is he being eased out?
