Belabouring the Point

Good grief! While complaining that not enough time has been allocated to debating the issue of bombing ISIS in Syria, for over an hour, all Labour MPs have done is intervene in the debate to demand an ‘apology’ from David Cameron for the ‘slur’ that Corbyn & Co are “terrorist sympathisers“.

Of course, what makes Cameron’s remark such a “contemptible and desperate slur” is that it is baseless. Neither Corbyn nor his supporters have ever said or done anything to suggest they sympathise with terrorists. I can’t imagine what drugs Cameron must have been taking to arrive at such a ludicrous conclusion. Ahem!

Still, Labour’s odd strategy is to waste the first hour of the debate, including the time in which the Prime Minister made his case, on obsessive and  self-centred complaining rather than making a credible case against bombing ISIS. Alas, it is symptomatic of the the self-righteous narcissism of the current party leadership.

UPDATE:

Actually, perhaps Labour should have simply stuck to this strategy. David Lammy has just suggested that we approach degrading the Islamic State with caution because if we destroy it, something – presumably worse – might take its place. ‘Devil you know’, etc.. What can one say to that?
