Readers sometimes accuse me of being unfairly prejudiced against the Republican party and its supporters.
To which I can only respond with two points:
1. I’m a Democrat, not a Republican.
2. I very much like some Republicans. The problem is that these days a Republican usually has to be a former politician to speak sensibly– like Alan Simpson, who represented Wyoming in the US Senate from 1979 to 1997:
