As Donald Trump continues his fascinating media (and polling) dominance of the Republican field of candidates for president, Bill Maher notes his Godzilla-like qualities– i.e., the more they throw at him, the stronger he gets. And he offers some funny observations about Trump’s reference to Fox News’s Megyn Kelly’s “blood coming out of her whatever.”
And yet… damned if Trump at last week’s debate didn’t make a more compelling case for campaign finance reform than all the hundreds of earnest op-ed pieces and editorials on the subject.
“Most of the people on this stage, I have given to. Just so you know. …I will tell you that our system is broken. I give to everybody. When they call, I give. And you know what, when I need something from them two years later, three years later, I call them they are there for me. And that’s a broken System.”
There it is. The unvarnished truth about how big money has corrupted American politics.
So what do we do about it? At least Bernie Sanders has some ideas.
