Adnan Rashid and the Ramadan Souk

Adnan Rashid, of the discredited ‘charity’ iERA, can give Ibrahim Hewitt a good run for his money when it comes to wriggling evasion.  Geoff Shorts provides a crisp executive summary of his Twitter exchange with the indefatigable Maryam Namazie.

I see @MrAdnanRashid has passed his 200th tweet explaining why his view on stoning LGBT folks to death is ‘too nuanced’ to fit on Twitter.

And Rationaliser offers some useful analysis hereHe concludes

So here is the question, just in case iERA would like to give a straight answer.

“Under the laws you desire what would be the punishment if two family men (married with children) decided to get divorced and live together, and were happy to openly and repeatedly admit that they are having anal sex with each other in the privacy of their own home?”

I shall leave the last word to Mr Adnan Rashid.

Rashid will find himself in congenial company later this month when he is scheduled to speak at ‘Befriending Ramadan’, a conference organized by the Al Fitrah Academy.  Another speaker, Khalid Yasin, is less coy about his views on homosexuality:

“There’s no such thing as a Muslim having a non-Muslim friend. If you prefer the clothing of the kafirs over the clothing of the Muslims, most of those names that’s on most of those clothings is faggots, homosexuals and lesbians. [opening of the documentary

The Koran gives a very clear position regarding homosexuality, lesbianism and bestiality – that these are aberrations, they are immoralities and if they are tried, convicted, they are punishable by death. [15:30]”

He is also a hudud enthusiast:

“Then people can see, people without hands, people can see in public heads rolling down the street, people got [sic] their hands and feet from opposite sides chopped off and they see them crucified…they see people put up against the pole and see them get lashed in public they see it, and because they see it, it acts as a deterrent for them because they say I don’t want that to happen to me.”

Other speakers include Yasir Qadhi:

Yasir Qadhi from America thinks that it is a sign of a society that has ‘regressed’ when hate speech against homosexuals is criticised. He says that the Islamic punishment for blasphemy is not ‘polite’ and that Muslims should not be ashamed of it. He has also in the past described Jews as ‘crooked nosed’ and promoted holocaust denial, advising his followers to read a book called ‘The Hoax of the Holocaust’.

Jalal Ibn Saeed also has form.

Returning to Adnan Rashid – he is in fact worried about extremists, extremists such as – Michael GoveHe is surely right to muse that the world is ‘full of ironies’ when he describes Maryam Namazie’s ripping of an iERA T shirt as some kind of hate crime:

What she does to the t-shirts is what she has done to many vulnerable minds (see trash below). It is clear that people like Namazie are a bunch of hate mongers and they cannot offer anything beneficial to the tolerant British society. I ask the Home Office to send her back to Iran, as she has nothing in common with the tolerant peace loving British people. A hateful communist bigot like her is more suited for Iran, China or Russia. I am sure the Iranian mullas will enjoy her company…

For it is indeed ironic that a torn T shirt can fill Rashid with such horror when he is happy to share a platform with a man who dwells with relish on the prospect of people being killed and mutilated – albeit only, we can assume, in an ‘ideal state’.
