The East London Mosque and Sulaiman Ghani

Sulaiman Ghani is an imam of the Tooting Islamic Centre in south London.

He will be one of the speakers at the “Global Aid Trust” event at the East London Mosque this Sunday.

One of Ghani’s favourite causes is the championing of suspected and convicted terrorists. For example, here he is at a rally for Aafia Siddiqui outside the US embassy in London.

Siddiqui was convicted for attempted murder in open court in New York in 2010.

She is connected to al-Qaeda.

She also used the New York courtroom as a platform for gross antisemitic tirades:

On questioning during jury selection: “The next question is going to be on anti-Semitism, and all I said was Israel was behind 9/11, and that’s not anti-Semitism!”

On Jewish lawyers: Previously she had tried to fire her lawyers due to their Jewish background (she once wrote to the court that Jews are “cruel, ungrateful, back-stabbing” people).

On Jewish mental health specialists: But at the Texas medical centre where the tests took place, Siddiqui refused to co-operate. “I can’t hear you. I’m not listening,” she told one doctor, sitting on the floor with her fingers in her ears. Others reported that she refused to speak with Jews.

On potential jurors: “If they have a Zionist or Israeli background . . . they are all mad at me. I have a feeling everyone here is them [sic] – subject to genetic testing. They should be excluded if you want to be fair.”

Convicted, she said: “This is a verdict coming from Israel, not America. Your anger should be directed where it belongs. I can testify to this and I have proof.”

This is just the kind of nasty extremist all of us should reject, especially as Siddiqui was convicted in a trial, not carted off to Guantanamo.

Sulaiman Ghani has a very different view. At the rally for Siddiqui, he hails her as a “sister”, rails against the “injustice” of her prosecution and demands “action” for her in the name of Islam.

He also speaks up for a south London “brother”, Babar Ahmad, who has since pleaded guilty to serious terrorism charges in another US court.

Among his other activities, Ahmad ran azzam.com, an openly pro-Taliban website. See for yourself in the web archives.

Ghani does all this because he too is a nasty extremist. Of all the Muslims in trouble in the world, he chooses the worst for his support, for this is his real ummah.

Gays, by contrast, are a big problem. He proudly tells them that homosexuality is “harmful for yourself” and “the society at large” too, as you can see in this C4 clip.

The East London Mosque does claim it is no home for extremists. Here’s one of the latest lines:

Having introduced an extremely tight booking procedure, hosted workshops and training for our trustees, and devoted considerable resources to vetting speakers, we would like to reassure our community and our partners that we take our responsibilities in this arena extremely seriously.

So, has Mr Ghani been “vetted”?

Oh and by the way, what about Labour MP Sadiq Khan’s “vetting” skills? Here he is campaigning for a Guantanamo inmate with Mr Ghani.
