Judge strikes down Texas abortion restrictions

A federal judge has blocked key parts of Texas’s restrictive new abortion law from taking effect– the law that State Senator and candidate for governor Wendy Davis filibustered against last June.

Lee Yeakel, the judge who made the ruling, was appointed in 2003 by “pro-life” President George W. Bush– a fact which I imagine will cause teeth to grind and mouths to sputter in some quarters.

However the State of Texas (Rick Perry, governor) is almost certain to appeal.
