Not a chance

David Young, a candidate for the Republican nomination for US senator from Iowa, said that if he was elected, “he would invite New York Senator Chuck Schumer to lunch so that he could share the good news of Jesus Christ.”

Young is not exactly a fringe character. He is the chief of staff to Iowa’s current Republican senator Chuck Grassley.

As Jonathan Chait observes, of the 11 Jewish members of the Senate, Schumer is probably the least likely to convert to evangelical Christianity.

Schumer is also a really good negotiator, and Young could walk out of the room having agreed to become a Jew.
