I don’t recall how I got there, but I am on the email list of my reliably rightwing Republican congressman Bob Goodlatte.
In a couple of previous instances, his emails have moved me to write disapproving letters to the editor of The Roanoke Times– such as this one (third letter down).
However Goodlatte’s latest email, to mark Memorial Day, provokes no disagreement from me. And– especially in the wake of last week’s horrible events in Woolwich– I appreciated the accompanying photo from Arlington National Cemetery.
I am pretty sure the arrangement of the three graves in front is nothing more than a heartening coincidence. All three soldiers served in Afghanistan and two of them also served in Iraq.
They lie together in the same ground. May they and all the others there rest in peace.
