Remember when Republican Congressman Paul Broun of Georgia– a member of the House Science Committee– told an audience of mounted deer heads that the theory of evolution is “lies straight from the pit of hell”?
Broun was reelected to Congress on Tuesday with no opposition on the ballot. However the late evolutionary theorist Charles Darwin received about 4,000 write-in votes in one county, home of the University of Georgia.
I don’t dare to expect that a more enlightened Republican can defeat Broun in the 2014 primary. But I hope a live, eligible Democrat can be found to run against him.
