The result came in late last night, and so far there doesn’t seem to be much response from bloggers and tweeters. UCU members were urged to vote for strike action by Sally Hunt, in the face of shrinking pay packets and pension packages, and, in many cases, increased pressures at work. Members’ anger at the pay deal they have been offered is strongly reflected in responses to the question ‘Are you prepared to take industrial action consisting of action short of a strike?’
- Number voting YES: 13,452 (70.1%)
- Number voting NO: 5,751 (29.9%)
But members – for whatever reasons – responded quite differently when asked: ‘Are you prepared to take industrial action consisting of strike action?’
- Number voting YES: 8,556 (44.3%)
- Number voting NO: 10,757 (55.7%)
It would be interesting to know exactly why people voted in this way.
