Stop Press: Future Khilafah State To Compete In Olympics

This is a guest post by Lahw and La’ib

It’s been hard not to get caught up in Olympic fever even for the most anti-athletic curmudgeons among us. Who could resist a smile as Jessica Ennis claimed gold? And have you seen our world-beating rowers and cyclists? Minority sports have never enjoyed such fame.

There’s lots to celebrate, and why not? Everyone’s getting into the spirit even, it would seem, the sour faced Islamists of Hizb ut Tahrir.

For years they said the Olympics was forbidden because it was an “organised distraction” designed to take people away from the remembrance of God.

Pop concerts, Olympics, football tournaments and the like are promoted in the media to the extent that people come to know every detail and strategy as if they were studying a war…the whole atmosphere is dominated by organised distractions.

But look at what they’re saying now!

A future Khilafah State could choose to participate at a high level in international sporting competitions if it saw that in some way it would contribute to the message it had for the world… It could achieve this by establishing a training system from grass roots but this would involve investment of centralised funds.

Aaw, guys. How sweet that you want to play too. Just one question, how long before we see Imran Waheed playing beach volleyball?
