Historic handshakes

On the occasion of the QE2-McGuinness handshake, The Washington Post looks back on some other noteworthy grasps.

Numbers 1 and 9 are cringe-inducing, while number 4 is the most enduringly fascinating.

Heinrich Severloh and David Silva meeting in 2005 on the beach where the former had fired his gun at the latter and his comrades.

Update: KB Player, in the comments, points us to a 1938 reunion at Gettysberg which included Confederate and Union veterans shaking hands.
