It was only last month that the editors of the venerable conservative magazine The National Review (William F. Buckley Jr., founder) went into full panic mode at the prospect of Newt Gingrich winning the Republican presidential nomination, depicting him on the cover as Looney Tunes cartoon character Marvin the Martian.
After Gingrich’s weak performances in the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary, it appeared their work was done.
Alas for the GOP establishment, no. At least not yet.
So which Looney Tunes character will The National Review depict Gingrich as now? Yosemite Sam? Elmer Fudd? The Tasmanian Devil?
Given Newt’s recent French-bashing, I don’t think they could get away with Pepe Le Pew.
Update: Class warfare helped Gingrich defeat Romney among low-income Republican voters.
