How bright does nationalist Alex Salmond think the Scottish people are? Not very, I’m guessing. Surely that’s the only reason he is insisting the independence vote must be in autumn 2014.
“The date for the referendum has to be the autumn of 2014. That’s because this is the biggest decision that Scotland has made for 300 years. If you are going to do things properly then that is the date we are going to move towards,” Salmond said.
He makes no sense. It is not a difficult thing to understand, but still he insists the Scottish people, and the rest of us, must have this dragged out for more than two years rather than Cameron’s proposed 18 months.
If Salmond wants a referendum it should be sooner rather than later. Instead he appears to be playing for time, hoping the historic mood against independence changes, and that a fight with Cameron and England can gain him a few more votes.
Yesterday the Scottish Nationalist Party leader was told he could be taken to court if he decided to go it alone as Scottish Secretary Michael Moore told the Commons that MPs needed to agree clear new rules before the Scottish parliament could legally call a vote.
A legal battle is won’t help anyone other than Salmond and his nationalist cronies, but for the sake of PR and his over inflated ego.
