Socialist Unity has posted without comment this video of North Koreans weeping at the passing of the Dear Dead Leader Kim Jong Il. A few commenters there seem to believe it reflects genuine mass grief.
No mention, of course, of the mass starvation, the slave-labor camps or any of the other unpleasantness associated with Kim’s regime.
And surely, when one is born and raised under a mind-warping system of leader worship, anguish of this sort may in fact be a natural (though strongly encouraged) reaction to the death of the object of veneration. But I couldn’t help noticing (and being a little fearful for) the three youngsters at about 1:20, standing dry-eyed and looking around while thinking (perhaps) “WTF is with these people?” before obediently dropping to their knees.
