In an interview with Barbara Walters of ABC News, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad– commander of the Syrian army and armed forces– said, “I’m president. I don’t own the country, so they’re not my forces.” And he said: “It’s impossible for anyone in this state to give the order to kill [protesters].”
So there.
Walters, to her credit, was resolutely skeptical– unlike her ABC News colleague Diane Sawyer and Vogue’s Joan Juliet Buck.
