Support locked-out Turkish workers

By Eric Lee of LabourStart

A few days ago, I had the chance to visit the locked-out workers at the GEA plant just outside Istanbul.

I was part of a solidarity delegation from thirty countries and the workers were obviously very pleased to see us.

Their employer is a German-owned company which has committed itself to recognise workers’ rights — it has even signed a framework agreement with the International Metalworkers Federation (IMF).

But in Turkey, it is breaking the law and trying to break the union by brute force.

The workers at GEA have asked us to flood their employers with email messages and today we’ve launched a big online campaign together with the IMF to do so.

Please take a moment to send off your message today – and please forward this message on to your fellow trade unionists.

Thanks very much!
