Anti LGBT legislation in St Petersburg

St Petersburg law makers have been trying to introduce legislation designed to severely restrict freedom of expression and assembly for LGBT people. The ‘promotion’ of homosexuality could lead to fines of up to £1,000 and there would be a complete ban on Pride events. The need to ‘protect’ minors is being invoked as justification for the legislation.  (The need to protect young people from bullying and discrimination doesn’t seem to be a concern to the bill’s proponents.)

The second reading of this bill had been scheduled for 23 November but, apparently due to condemnation from around the world, this has now been postponed until 30 November.  I know some readers were unsure about their campaign against ‘gay cure’ clinics in Ecuador, but ‘All Out’ seems fine to me, generally, and so I’m linking to their petition.
