In case anyone still cares, Sarah Palin– after keeping a shrinking core of true believers (and Andrew Sullivan) in suspense for months– has announced that she will not seek the Republican presidential nomination in 2012.
Our diminishing interest in Palin can be traced in the Harry’s Place archives. After some heavy focus when John McCain inexplicably selected her as his running mate in 2008, we continued to follow her with mostly morbid fascination, and even praised parts of her record as governor of Alaska. But as with most people, our interest in Palin trailed off. Our last post about her was in March of this year and our last mention of her was in July.
The only reason to pay attention to her was the possibility that she would defy common sense and run for president. And now that she has decided not to run, she has completed her journey into irrelevance.
And it’s entirely possible that– aside from historical references– we will never mention her again.
