Crackdown in Hama

It may not be on the same scale as the 1982 massacre (yet), but reports are coming out of a military assault on Hama and other Syrian towns which have been centers of anti-regime protests in recent months.

President Obama has issued a strong statement on the latest events in Syria:

The reports out of Hama are horrifying and demonstrate the true character of the Syrian regime.
Once again, President (Bashar) Assad has shown that he is completely incapable and unwilling to respond to the legitimate grievances of the Syrian people.

His use of torture, corruption and terror puts him on the wrong side of history and his people.
