Sorry but I think that comparison is tasteless, and trivialises the struggles of the Egyptian people. Porter was elected. And people didn’t have to sacrifice their lives to bring him down..

Thanks for saying this. I don’t like Aaron Porter either but he’s never had anyone tortured or shot.

What is surprising is not the comments from a certain failed academic and Swuppie, but that two members of the Uck-U list see it for what it was.

Jeff Fowler is a member of the SWP endorsed faction, UCU Left. He also ran for Mayor of  Middlesborough in 2002, for the Socialist Alliance, a Socialist Workers Party front organisation.

He got an impressive 352 votes. The Mayor – Ray Mallon – got a slightly more impressive 26,362 votes.

Isn’t it amazing how incredibly unpopular Trotskyites are in the real world, but yet quite how many of them get jobs as polytechnic lecturers?

What on earth has any of this got to do with Sunderland University or whether or not I’ve published for the RAE/REF ? I did not sign myself off here as ‘Dr Fowler’, so why is that relevant?

At least I’m not afraid to use my real name. I cannot identify any of the posters above, so cannot judge whether they are published academics or not. However it wouldn’t make the slightest difference to my view of your views either way.

BTW, I’m not a fool, and I’m not a member of UCU Left.

First of all, it is very clear to me that Jeff Fowler is a fool. However, that’s a qualitative judgement, and I expect you to form your own views on this subject.

Why is this relevant? Because, Jeff, you’re a former candidate for a disgusting Socialist Workers Party front organisation, who is active in the politics of the UCU. We’d treat an activist in the British National Party is precisely the same way.

As to whether he is a member of UCU Left? Well, here’s UCU Left backing him on the Socialist Worker website:
