Do Something!

Laurie Penny vs. AWL

There might be some readers of this blog who will wish to join me in attending the following event billed for tomorrow evening:

What kind of “new politics”? Laurie Penny debates Workers’ Liberty

ULU, Malet St, London WC1E 7HY,  January 27, 2011, 7.30pm-9.30pm.

In the room will be various subversives who wish to overthrow parliamentary democracy and install a dictatorship of the proletariat. I shall also be there keeping an eye on them.  I do not suggest anyone turns up carrying an ice-axe, you might not be admitted.  For those not familiar with such events, if you walk around calling everyone “comrade” you will be well on the way to fitting in. If any of you do decide to come, do introduce yourself to me.

It is entirely possible that some of you are familiar with the game Buzzword Bingo. Key words and phrases to look out for in this debate include:

Solidarity

Working Class

Fightback

Struggle

Smash

Build the movement

Overthrow

Marx

Engels

Lenin

Trotsky

Anarchism

The bosses

Ordinary (as in “Ordinary students” or “ordinary workers.” – There is nothing normally “ordinary” about the ones that they refer to.)

Imperialists

Colonialists

Capitalist system

Maggie Thatcher

Con-Dems

SWP (only counts if the rest of sentence is about where the SWP have gone wrong).
