Stateside

From the Vaults: The Guardian, June 17, 1982

I thought I would provide a light hearted post. This one should suitably irritate our American friends. (No offence to Gene – he is the one who allows me to write here.)

Letters to the Editor

The Guardian, June 17, 1982, p.12.

Sir, – A friend of mine tried to take some Bird’s Custard to the United States.

Customs officials regarded the yellow powder as a Highly Suspicious Substance:

“Custard?”

“Yes it’s Birds Custard.”

“Birds Custard? Custard for birds?”

“No, it’s made by Birds.”

“Made by birds? -?”

Bill Lythgoe.
