Lauren Booth and “The Muslim Cause”

I don’t much like public displays of religiosity. They are for places of worship, not ostentatious in-your-face grandstanding for broadcast.

Lauren Booth has a different view. Here she is at this weekend’s “Global Peace and Unity” conference.

She is introduced by Mohamed Ali Harrath, a man of violence who hoped to start a Khomeinist revolution in Tunisia in the 1980s. He failed and fled. He found refuge in the United Kingdom in the 1990s under John Major’s Tory government. He got a broadcasting licence too – he is the CEO of Islam Channel.

And here is some appalling reporting of this story by the Daily Mail. Look at this line:

The 43-year-old mother of two, who has long sympathised with the Muslim cause, described how she had a religious awakening six weeks ago on a visit to a shrine in the Iranian holy city of Qom.

“The Muslim cause”? What on earth is that? Muslims have all sorts of views on everything from high theology to day-to-day politics. There is no borg.

For Booth, fanatical hatred of Israel is at the heart of it all. Look at her here earlier this year:

That kind of rhetoric must warm Mr Harrath’s heart. He is, after all, a man who says that Jews control America.

Booth is still listed as a patron of the Palestine Telegraph, a hate site that has published a video from former KKK grand wizard David Duke and no end of other racists, including Holocaust denier Fredrick Toben, and a long procession of conspiracy loons too.

Booth has just taken another step on her very own hateful and loony journey, and Islamists find it helpful.

That’s the “cause” she supports.
