Gordon Brown defects to the LibDems

So, is Gordon Brown’s announcement of electoral reform plans – reviewing the current first-past-the-post system – a sign that he’s done his sums and realised that he can’t hang on to ‘power’ without drafting in the LibDems in a coalition government?

Is he in effect saying: “Okay chaps, I know you said you wouldn’t consider a coalition, but how about if we sweeten the deal by promising to make one of your party’s central platforms an urgent priority of the next government?”

Demographically, FPTP benefits Labour the most, so if this is the plan, it is a rather short-term gain without a long-view decision… and somewhat desperate.

Your thoughts?
