This is a guest post by Jonathan Hoffman
On Tuesday night around 60 people demonstrated outside St Pauls Church, Covent Garden in an interfaith protest at the doctored carols vilifying Israel which were being sung in the church in an event organised by Jews. Ben White, Jenny Tonge (“The pro-Israeli lobby has got its grips on the western world, its financial grips. I think they’ve probably got a grip on our party”) and Lauren Booth were inside. So – amazingly – was John Sullivan, who was introduced to a police officer on his way into the Church.
I recorded an interview for BBC radio about the event on Monday. I had been expecting to hear the report on the event – with soundbites from the interview – on the Today programme on BBC Radio 4 this morning. But it wasn’t broadcast, because the Vicar refused to allow the BBC to record any of the carol service.
I wonder if it was because he had last minute second thoughts, like the Vicar of St James’ Piccadilly seemed to have had after he hosted the event last year ….
