According to The Times this morning:
“Hamas fired rockets into southern Israel this morning, defying the Jewish state to abandon the unilateral ceasefire it had declared just hours earlier. “
There’s very little else that needs to be said at this juncture, except to note that some will now characterise them as a plucky little resistance movement with indomitable spirit who refuse to give up – somewhere between Asterix and Monty Python’s Black Knight. These will be the ones who use and abuse the people of Gaza only for their propaganda value and who care nothing about their security or futures.
But some might see Hamas for what they are – a clear and present threat to Israel, but moreover, a scourge and a pestilence, undermining both the Palestinian people and any prospect of a peaceful future.
