News on the bet between Sonic and Oliver Kamm:
If you’ve read the comments to the What you talking ’bout Willis? thread below, you may have seen reference made to a wager between Oliver Kamm and Sonic of Hitchens Watch fame. On August 10th, with reference to the alleged plot to blow up aeroplanes, Sonic asked “So who wants to take me up on a little bet that this story falls apart by next month at the latest?”. Now, more than a month later and with 8 men in custody on charges of conspiracy to murder, Sonic is confidently demanding payment. Good luck to him.
Sonic is still occasionally posting material to his blog, so hopefully the cheque will soon be in the post, as news is coming in of the guilty verdicts in the plane bomb plot. You can hear two of the convicted men in their own words here.
UPDATE: Although there is wiggle room because the BBC report:
But after more than 50 hours of deliberations, the jury did not find any of the defendants guilty of conspiring to target aircraft.
David T adds:Let us not forget the words of Hamas Special Envoy, Azzam “Kaboom” Tamimi:
I have a feeling that all the Muslims detained in connection with the recent police operation to foil and alleged plot are innocent and will soon be proven so. I also suspect that the entire episode has been deemed, despite its enormous cost, to be of utility to a government that is increasingly out of touch with reality and seriously short of public support and sympathy. I wonder whether this was also intended to smear the image of Islam and the Muslims at the time when the entire world can see that they are the victims of a most unjust world order dominated by the USA and the UK who both support and sponsor Israeli terrorism against Muslims in Palestine and Lebanon and who both oppress the Muslim peoples of Afghanistan and Iraq through direct occupation.
If the government is confident that it has a case against the detained Muslims then have them tried in a court of law. Instead what we are witnessing is a campaign of misinformation that deludes the public into believing that the group is guilty of what is nothing but mere suspicion and most probably false intelligence from the Pakistanis.
