After more than a year of anticipation, I finally got to see the animated film (in French with English subtitles) based on Marjane Satrapi’s great graphic novel Persepolis and its sequel.
If for some reason anyone still hasn’t read them, they are about Satrapi’s childhood in Iran before, during and after the 1979 revolution (and how that revolution betrayed its secular and leftwing supporters); her teenage years in Vienna; and her return to Iran before finally moving to France.
Satrapi, who was involved in making the movie, said it would be better than the book. I don’t know if it’s fair to compare the two, but the film is in its own way every bit as funny, tragic and moving.
Has anyone else seen it?
