As the Celebrity Big Brother rumpus rumbles onwards (and don’t let me put you off discussing it here – anything to milk a few comments.) News comes in of another TV star in trouble for his language.
Isaiah Washington of Grey’s Anatomy, a show I admit to watching chiefly in order to work out if Ellen Pompeo is actually the most striking woman in the history of the world; or alternatively, way too thin and unhealthy and in need of a few deep fried pizzas, (thats middle age kids, it’s coming, and then you will have to deal with it as well…) is alleged to have referred to his gay co-star TR Knight as a “faggot.”
Having at first denied the incident, Washington has now said: I can also no longer deny to myself that there are issues I obviously need to examine within my own soul, and I’ve asked for help.
To which the president of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation responded:We are optimistic that it may mark a turning point in this deeply troubling situation.
Americans eh? They will all be slapping each other on the back and eating pastrami sandwiches by Monday, having forgotten about the whole thing.
They are different to us Brits and respond differently to the small troubles in their society don’t they? Possibly so. But if so, why so?
Got any ideas, cross-cultural travellers?
