A couple of months ago, in response to George Galloway’s nostalgia for the USSR, I created and posted what I thought was a satiric slide show about those not-so-glorious days.
So I was bemused to find the following comment from one umer05, a 21-year-old Pakistani who stumbled upon my slide show on YouTube:
Even though it includes revisionists like Khruschev and Brezhnev, this video is simply superb.
As I understand it, this means he or she actually considers most of the slide show a praiseworthy paean to Lenin and Stalin– including, apparently, the photos of Dzerzhinsky, Beria, the Gulag, Lubyanka, Stalin toasting Ribbentrop, etc.
That suspicion is confirmed by another of umer05’s favorite YouTube clips: an apologia for Stalin’s labor camps (which could be titled “Gulag, Shmulag”) produced by a 17-year-old Russian. It has to be seen to be believed.
I feel that I should respond in some fashion to umer05, but frankly I wouldn’t know where to start. Should I recommend an apprenticeship with Galloway? Any other suggestions?
