As you already know, Ken believes that Tiananmen Square is a place with an “interesting history“, a bit like Trafalgar Square:
“We’ve had some interesting riots in Trafalgar Square – I mean, only 20 years ago, the poll tax riots, and flames licking up.”
Just like Tiananmen Square: where demonstrations were followed by the violent snuffing out of the pro-democracy movement, followed by a massacre.
Now he’s on a Mayoral Visit to Cuba: a country in which has only one legal political party, whose leader has been president since 1959.
Ken has just given a press conference in Havana at which he has declared that the revolution is:
“One of the high points of the 20th century.”
Not everybody agrees. Although it isn’t particularly safe to say so.
