Considering George Bush’s grim resistance to the concept of accountability, I suppose this— along with the departure of the inept Michael Brown from FEMA– is progress of a sort.
“Katrina exposed serious problems in our response capability at all levels of government,” Bush said at a joint White House news conference with Iraqi President Jalal Talabani. “To the extent the federal government didn’t fully do its job right, I take responsibility.”
Now is it too much to expect something similar from Bush on the post-invasion failures in Iraq?
Update: With everyone from Bush on down talking about a breach in the levees surrounding New Orleans, commenter TedM makes the point that the levees themselves were not breached. Rather it was the concrete floodwalls along the canals.
