“A sinful act by a bloodthirsty terrorist” is how Prime Minister Ariel Sharon correctly described the murder of four Israeli Arabs by an extremist deserter from the IDF.
There should be no attempt to “understand” his motivation. Nothing– absolutely nothing– justified this horrific crime.
That such a “problematic” soldier was never relieved of his weapon represents a serious failure in IDF procedure. Those responsible should be held to account.
Some on Israel’s extreme-right fringe will attempt to excuse this act, as they did with the murders committed by Baruch Goldstein and Yigal Amir. They deserve– and will receive– the contempt of every decent Israeli and every decent supporter of Israel around the world.
