I don’t know about other parts of the world, but for the past two decades American corporations have been eagerly buying the rights to use classic rock songs (including those once considered countercultural or subversive) in TV commercials.
Sometimes the results are grimly amusing (the Jefferson Airplane’s “Volunteers” in an ad for etrade.com). But sometimes they just break my heart– which is what happened when I heard The Band’s beautiful song “The Weight” used in a commercial for a cell phone company.
Any other egregious examples?
