One of our commenters, Leo Casey, wrote an excellent article in 2003 for Dissent magazine, tracing the history of Halabja Denial. He notes that it originated with a flawed and politically-motivated report by the Defense Intelligence Agency blaming Iran for the gas attack. Although the US subsequently reversed its position on Halabja, critics of US policy on Iraq have continued to seize on the report for their own political ends.
