Unlike some leftwing icons of the 1960s, Joan Baez always seemed to me to have her head on fairly straight. For example she didn’t forget about Vietnam after the war, and has spoken out loudly about the repressive actions of the postwar Hanoi government.
So– assuming this account is accurate– I have to wonder if the reelection of George Bush has deranged Baez and her audience. They wouldn’t be the only ones, of course. But are offensive carricatures like this suddenly acceptable when performed by the likes of Baez?
