If you were a Spaniard, after the appalling atrocity this morning, would you be thinking about watching a game of football?
Spanish clubs asked for tonight’s UEFA Cup games to be cancelled but UEFA have decided to go ahead with the matches anyway.
UEFA chief executive officer Lars-Christer Olsson said: “The events of this morning are tragic and shocking and on behalf of UEFA I would like to offer our sincerest condolences to those individuals and families involved.
“By playing the games tonight under these difficult circumstances we hope to show to the world the true spirit of fair play and respect in football.”
More like the total incapacity of the so-called ‘people’s game’ to have the slightest degree of perspective.
