Some interesting new books on global politics reviewed by Martin Jacques in the Guardian. Michael Ignatieff’s Empire Lite, Nation-Building in Bosnia, Kosovo and Afghanistan is one that will certainly be on my next purchase list.
However I couldn’t read Jacques’ review and let this little line pass without comment:
The post-cold war world was a novelty for everyone. This was the era of “the end of”. It became fashionable to consign the past to the dustbin of history – ideology, left, right, socialism, capitalism, imperialism (hopelessly old-hat) and the rest – while the future seemed a cornucopia of possibilities
None of which was engaged in by The End Of Marxism Today when edited by Martin Jacques of course.
