David Cameron speculates that Tony Blair could quit in the summer and gives ten reasons to back his guess.
I’m not convinced. I’ve no inside knowledge on this one and like Cameron I’m just taking a stab in the dark, but at the moment I am reading John Rentoul’s biography of Blair and the idea of the PM calmly weighing up his record so far and deciding the moment has arrived to stand down doesn’t fit in with what we know of the man.
Again, this is just gut instinct, but I imagine Blair’s departure, whenever it comes, will be similar to that of Thatcher’s – tearful and accompanied by bewilderment at his betrayal and an inner-conviction that it will all fall to pieces without him.
