“For too long, Britain has been a country governed in the South East, by people living in the South East and, all too often, on behalf of the South East.”
Kevin Meagher in the Chartist on the need for regional government in the North.
He also says the main opposition facing supporters of devolution comes, unfortunately, from within the labour movement.
I do hope the Labour Party puts some real energy into a good ‘yes’ campaign for regional government. As Meagher says it is a “once in a lifetime opportunity” and years of patient work in the North could be thrown away if John Prescott is left on his own on this issue.
